On 9 February 2017, Infrastructure Australia rated the Northern Road Upgrade project as a Priority Project on the Infrastructure Priority List.

The Northern Road is a key north-south road across Sydney’s south west, which links the proposed Western Sydney Airport at Badgery’s Creek to the M4, Penrith, Bringelly and more. The project consists of an upgrade to a four-lane dual carriageway road with bus lanes to improve public transport use in the area.
