In May 2016, Infrastructure Australia assessed the M1 Pacific Motorway – Mudgeeraba to Varsity Lakes project as a Priority Project on the Infrastructure Priority List. 

The project proposes to widen a 5km section of the motorway from four to six lanes, providing an additional 50% in traffic capacity and easing congestion costs.
