On 14 June 2017, Infrastructure Australia positively assessed the Western Australian government’s Armadale Road Upgrade project as a Priority Project on the Infrastructure Priority List.

The project includes widening 7 kilometres of road from two to four lanes, consistent with the rest of the 16 kilometre section between Armadale and the Kwinana Freeway. The project will improve capacity constraints on Perth’s major east-west corridors, improve cycling and pedestrian access and improve travel times.
