Last week, we launched a new report detailing the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Australian infrastructure sectors. Infrastructure Australia developed the report at the request of the Australian Government, in collaboration with L.E.K. Consulting. The report provides a snapshot of how COVID-19 has changed the way Australian communities use infrastructure.

In 2019, the Australian Infrastructure Audit found that a new wave of investment and reform was needed to ensure Australia’s infrastructure continues to support our quality of life and economic productivity over the next 15 years. The 2020–21 Federal budget, released by the Treasurer last night, has provided one of the largest boosts to infrastructure investment in recent times.

The evolving impacts of COVID-19 remain front of mind at Infrastructure Australia, as we look to progress investments and reforms that enable the long-term sustainability of the infrastructure sector, build community resilience and support the transformation of the Australian economy.

By strengthening dialogue with diverse infrastructure experts and with infrastructure users, we ensure that our infrastructure planning is grounded in the needs of the community as well as the priorities of industry and all levels of government.

The 2019 Audit presents a forward-looking view of Australia’s infrastructure challenges and opportunities over the next 15 years and beyond. The Audit is a truly collaborative document, spanning across themes, sectors and geographies.
