KPMG (UK): PFI in school building — does it influence educational outcomes?

This report by KPMG presents an analysis of the use of the Private Finance Initiative in school building and its impact on educational outcomes in England. The Private Finance Initiative is a form of public–private partnership used in the United Kingdom.

The main findings of the report are that educational performance in newly rebuilt Private Finance Initiative schools improves faster than in conventional ones and that unauthorised absence in schools rebuilt using the Private Finance Initiative is reducing, whereas in a comparable set of conventional schools it is increasing.

The data sample for the report includes all secondary schools in England rebuilt using the Private Finance Initiative that have information necessary to meet inclusion criteria. The datasets consist of 89 Private Finance Initiative and 81 conventional schools.
