Industry efficiency, capacity and capability
Australia’s infrastructure sector is well-established and has delivered high quality infrastructure to support Australian communities and economic growth. While progress has been made since 2015 in building capacity and improving how we plan, fund and deliver infrastructure, there is still some way to go before best practice is routinely and consistently applied.
This chapter discusses how the sector is responding to changing pressures and demands and how it can meet best practice. We look at:
- Planning and decision making
- Funding and financing
- Market depth and skills
- Procurement and contracting
- Security, resilience and sustainability
There is a national infrastructure funding deficit, but it cannot be measured.
More funding for the right projects at the right time can close the gap between what we have and what we need.
