Progress and Action is Infrastructure Australia's fourth annual report to the Council of Australian Governments. It presents current opportunities and challenges and recommends reforms in key areas of transport, water, energy and telecommunications. It also contains the infrastructure report card 2011–12 and the 2012 Infrastructure Priority List.

Infrastructure Australia's report to the Council of Australian Governments, Communicating the Imperative for Action, outlines the areas that Infrastructure Australia will focus its efforts in over four-year period following the release of the report. The report discusses issues affecting cities, water, energy, freight, broadband and Indigenous infrastructure.

Infrastructure Australia provides advice to government on transport, communications, energy and water proposals that are to be funded from the Building Australia Fund.

In 2011, Infrastructure Australia positively assessed the Adelaide Rail Freight – Goodwood and Torrens Rail Junctions project as Ready to Proceed, conditional upon four recommendations.

In 2011, Infrastructure Australia moved the Cross River Rail project in Brisbane from ‘Real Potential’ (June 2010), to ‘Threshold’ on the Infrastructure Priority List.

In 2012, Infrastructure Australia moved the Cross River Rail (CRR) project in Brisbane from ‘Threshold’ (June 2011) to ‘Ready to Proceed’ on the Infrastructure Priority List.

In 2012, Infrastructure Australia recommended the Melbourne Metro initiative be rated as ‘Real Potential’ on the Infrastructure Priority List.

In 2011, Infrastructure Australia rated the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal initiative as ‘Threshold’ on the Infrastructure Priority List.
