It focuses on improving customers’ experience by exposing operation of government-owned bus and rail services to a competitive tender process, and selecting the best operator to provide services.

On 19 July 2017, Infrastructure Australia has retained Cross River Rail as a High Priority Initiative on the Infrastructure Priority List. Infrastructure Australia has not included the current proposal for Cross River Rail as a Project on the Infrastructure Priority List at this time.

On 9 February 2017, Infrastructure Australia did not include Maldon-Dombarton Rail Link project on the Infrastructure Priority List (IPL).

On 14 June 2017, Infrastructure Australia added the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project to the Infrastructure Priority List as a High Priority Project.
