The report summarises the results of detailed transport network modelling undertaken by Veitch Lister Consulting on behalf of Infrastructure Australia for the 2019 Australian Infrastructure Audit. The modelling was undertaken for the nation’s six largest urban conurbations, defined as an extended urban area.

The 2019 Audit covers transport, energy, water, telecommunications and – for the first time – social infrastructure, and looks at the major challenges and opportunities facing Australia’s infrastructure over the next 15 years and beyond. We have presented our findings in terms that matter to users, by focusing on outcomes for them. Our hope is that this enhanced focus on users, and the role infrastructure can play in improving their quality of life, helps to drive better decisions that are rooted in the long-term interests of Australians.

The Walkerston Bypass Project is for a 10-kilometre link between the Peak Downs Highway and the Mackay Ring Road to bypass Walkerston and provide a more efficient link from the northern Bowen Basin to Mackay.

The Bindoon Bypass project is to construct a western bypass of Bindoon along the Great Northern Highway, in the Shire of Chittering, north-west of Perth. The bypass would be a two-lane highway, comprising 61.6 km of new highway and 4.4 km of improvements to the existing Great Northern Highway.
