Infrastructure Priority List – call for submissions to 2021 publication

The close of submissions to the 2021 February Priority List update was 31 August 2020. We are currently assessing these submissions, but continue to welcome engagement and future submissions to the Priority List. The Priority List is a living document and updated regularly throughout the year as assessments are completed

It is crucial that Australia continues to have a comprehensive and robust infrastructure pipeline to guide our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and to ensure that Australia can cope with future challenges. The Infrastructure Priority List provides evidence-based advice to support an informed discussion about Australia’s spending priorities.

What kind of submissions are we looking for?

We are inviting Australia's governments and non-government bodies to submit nationally significant infrastructure problems and opportunities for consideration.

Submissions are welcome in all infrastructure sectors: energy, water, transport, telecommunications and social infrastructure, and should target issues affecting quality of life, productivity and/or the environment. We particularly welcome submissions that respond to the national initiatives added to the Priority List in 2020:

  • Ensuring towns and cities have safe and secure water supplies
  • Developing a national strategy for water
  • Protecting coastal regions from inundation
  • Addressing national waste and recycling management challenges
  • Responding to national road maintenance issues
  • Improving mobile telecommunications coverage in regional and remote areas
  • Establishing an Indigenous art and cultural facilities program

How to make a submission

Please use the template to submit a Stage 1 submission (Problem Identification and Prioritisation). The template includes a checklist to ensure you have included all the necessary information.

If your proposal is more advanced and you have completed an options assessment and identified preferred options, please consider submitting both Stage 1 and Stage 2 templates.

For more information about making a submission, please refer to the Infrastructure Australia Assessment Framework. The Framework provides detailed guidance on each submission stage and step-by-step advice about how to prepare a submission.

We encourage you to call us on (02) 8114 1900 or email us at to ensure that the right information is included in your submission.

Mid-2020 Infrastructure Priority List update

Infrastructure Australia received a record number of submissions to the 2020 Priority List.

We have continued to engage with proponents to progress some proposals that did not make the February 2020 Priority List and, this year, Infrastructure Australia published a mid-year Infrastructure Priority List update to ensure that the Priority List continues to align with budget and MYEFO timeframes.

All of the initiatives and projects included in this mid-year release were evaluated by the Infrastructure Australia Board.
