Reform and Investment

Advancing national infrastructure priorities

Australia's economic prosperity demands best practice planning and decision-making; improved linkages between jurisdictions, and shifting decisions about infrastructure from traditional project-by-project and jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction approaches to a much broader and deeper focus on national objectives and priorities.

There is a widely held view that infrastructure decision-making is typically carried out in an environment where initiatives are considered in isolation, lack coordination and where the initiatives themselves are driven by short term considerations.

Infrastructure Australia seeks to identify potential reforms and investments across a spectrum starting from 'early stage' through to 'ready to proceed', which align with at least one of the national infrastructure themes and have the potential to provide positive economic gains. We welcome proposals for inclusion in a long-term package of reforms and investments, which are the direct result of thorough, evidence-based planning.

To assist with the development to proposals, Infrastructure Australia has released a reform and investment framework which outlines our decision making processes. The framework adopts a structured approach, starting with a clear articulation of the overarching policy goals, problems and challenges facing Australia.
